HOW TO CHANGE A CITY

THE REEL MEAL

Featuring the film: Downside Up

A story of North Adams, MA and their transformation form a desolate postindustrial city to a thriving community.

April 21 at 6:00 pm

 SEILERS’ STUDIO and GALLERY

129 S. 7th Street, Zanesville, OH

In the 1980s, the Sprague Electric Company in North Adams, Massachusetts closed, and many of the 4000 residents of that factory town were out of work. The film examines how this struggling working class town ended up betting its future on art by creating the largest museum of contemporary art in America in that abandoned factory: the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA). Zanesville certainly has a few abandoned factories. Can we learn anything from North Adams? Mike Seiler and Dave Mitzel will lead a discussion after the film – to bring it all back home!!

What You Should Bring:

  • Snacks/appetizers – only if you want to
  • A lawn chair – in case we run out
  • A small donation to help us with expenses.
  • Your ideas and opinions!

What REEL MEAL provides:

  • Drinks
  • A great venue and entertaining films
  • A gathering of interesting, involved individuals!

THE UNTOLD STORY

As Kathy and I live our lives in the downtown, there are some fun times at the studio and our home. Many of you who know Kathy know her many interests especially with her love of reptiles and the like. She has been raising a Jackson Chameleon. Along the way she picked up two praying mantis egg casings. Now all hatched she feeds them wingless fruit flies. She has made them available to folks who would like to raise one for fun and release when the weather warms up.

Life is never boring with art people.

If you’d like to try this out, give us a call.

If you farm or garden, you’ll be glad of the information. If you eat, you will also find this an important movie!
